Description

Ingredients

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot brewed coffee
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup strawberry puree
  • 2 tablespoons milk


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  3. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Add eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  5. Stir in hot coffee until well blended.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pans.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Let the cakes cool for 10 minutes, then remove from pans to cool completely.
  9. For the buttercream, beat the softened butter and gradually add powdered sugar until combined.
  10. Mix in strawberry puree and milk until the desired consistency is reached.
  11. Once the cakes are completely cooled, frost the top of one layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides.

Notes

  • Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • For added flavor, drizzle some chocolate ganache on top.
