Description

A delightful recipe for onion rings inspired by Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, paired with a creamy horseradish dip.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large onions
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Slice the onions into thick rings and soak them in buttermilk for at least an hour.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix flour, breadcrumbs, paprika, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot.
  4. Remove onion rings from the buttermilk and coat them in the flour mixture.
  5. Carefully place the coated rings in the hot oil and fry until golden brown.
  6. Drain on paper towels and serve with horseradish dip.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, double coat the onion rings by dipping them back in buttermilk and then in the flour mixture again.
  • Adjust the spiciness of the dip according to taste by varying the amount of horseradish.
