Description

Indulge in the deliciously fluffy and sweet New Orleans beignets, a perfect treat for any coffee or tea break.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 quart vegetable oil, for frying
  • powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and nutmeg.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and melted butter.
  3. Combine wet ingredients with the dry ingredients until a dough forms.
  4. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  5. Cut the dough into squares and allow them to rest for about 30 minutes.
  6. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 360°F (182°C).
  7. Fry the beignets, a few at a time, until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  8. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • For best results, make sure the oil is hot enough before frying.
  • Beignets are best served fresh on the day they are made.
