Description

This homemade barbacoa recipe features tender, flavorful beef that makes the perfect filling for tacos.


Ingredients

  • 3 pounds beef chuck roast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon chipotle pepper, diced
  • 1 cup beef broth


Instructions

  1. Season the beef chuck roast with salt and black pepper.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat and sear the beef on all sides.
  3. Remove the beef and add garlic, onion, cumin, oregano, and chipotle pepper to the skillet. Sauté until fragrant.
  4. Place the beef back in the pot, add beef broth, and cover. Simmer on low for 4-6 hours until tender.
  5. Shred the beef and mix it with the juices in the pot before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add more chipotle peppers.
  • This barbacoa can also be prepared in a slow cooker.
