- 12 wonton wrappers
- 2 medium poblano peppers
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Monterey Jack)
- 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- oil for frying
Instructions
- Roast the poblano peppers over an open flame until charred. Place in a bag to steam for about 10 minutes.
- Once cooled, peel the skins off and remove seeds.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the shredded cheese, cream cheese, garlic, cilantro, cumin, salt, and pepper.
- Chop the roasted peppers and add them to the cheese mixture.
- Place a spoonful of the mixture in the center of each wonton wrapper. Moisten the edges with water and fold to seal.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Fry the wonton bites until golden brown and crispy.
- Drain on paper towels and serve hot.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add diced cooked chicken or chorizo to the filling.
- Serve with salsa or guacamole for dipping.
