- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp mustard seeds (optional)
- 1 bay leaf
- 4 medium potatoes, quartered
- 3 large carrots, cut into chunks
- 1 onion, cut into wedges
- 1 small head cabbage, cut into wedges
Instructions
1. Prepare the Slow Cooker:
- Layer potatoes, carrots, and onion at the bottom of the slow cooker.
2. Season the Brisket:
- Rinse the brisket under cold water to remove excess brine.
- Place it fat-side up on top of the vegetables.
- Sprinkle with the seasoning packet, brown sugar, garlic powder, black pepper, mustard seeds, and bay leaf.
3. Add the Liquid:
- Pour in beef broth (or water), apple cider vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce.
4. Cook:
- Cover and cook on LOW for 8-10 hours or HIGH for 4-5 hours until the brisket is tender.
5. Add the Cabbage:
- Place cabbage wedges on top 1 hour before the cooking time ends.
6. Serve:
- Remove the brisket and let it rest for 10 minutes. Slice against the grain.
- Serve with the cooked vegetables and spoon some cooking juices over the top.
Notes
- For extra flavor, substitute half the broth with beer (Guinness works well).
- To reduce saltiness, rinse the corned beef before cooking.
