- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/4 cup ice water
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, and sugar.
- Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in ice water until dough comes together. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- In a saucepan, combine strawberries, sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla over medium heat. Cook until thickened.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out dough and cut into heart shapes.
- Place filling on one half of each heart, fold over, and seal edges.
- Brush with egg wash and cut vents for steam. Bake for 25-30 minutes.
- Cool before serving.
Notes
- For a sweeter filling, adjust sugar to taste.
