Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/4 cup ice water
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)


Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, and sugar.
  2. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in ice water until dough comes together. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  4. In a saucepan, combine strawberries, sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla over medium heat. Cook until thickened.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out dough and cut into heart shapes.
  6. Place filling on one half of each heart, fold over, and seal edges.
  7. Brush with egg wash and cut vents for steam. Bake for 25-30 minutes.
  8. Cool before serving.

Notes

  • For a sweeter filling, adjust sugar to taste.
