Description

Mille-Feuille, also known as Napoleon, is a classic French pastry that features layers of delicate puff pastry and rich pastry cream.


Ingredients

  • 1 package puff pastry sheets
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • powdered sugar for dusting


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Roll out the puff pastry sheets and cut them into equal rectangles.
  3. Bake the pastry pieces until golden and crisp, about 15-20 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, in a saucepan, heat the milk and 1/2 cup of sugar until just simmering.
  5. In a bowl, whisk together the remaining sugar, flour, and egg yolks until smooth.
  6. Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg mixture, whisking continuously.
  7. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook, stirring, until thickened.
  8. Stir in the vanilla extract and butter until smooth.
  9. Let the pastry cream cool completely.
  10. Once the pastry is cool, assemble by layering pastry, cream, and more pastry, finishing with a top layer sprinkled with powdered sugar.
