Description

Better-than-takeout Garlic Chicken Lo Mein made with tender chicken, crisp veggies, and a savory garlic sauce—all in 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz lo mein noodles
  • 1 lb chicken breast or thighs, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp vegetable or canola oil
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 34 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp grated fresh ginger (or 1/4 tsp ground)
  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup snow peas or broccoli florets
  • 3 green onions, sliced (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a bowl, mix sesame oil, brown sugar, garlic, soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, ginger, and red pepper flakes. Set aside.
  3. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a skillet or wok. Add chicken and cook until golden and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  4. Add remaining oil to the skillet. Stir-fry carrots, bell pepper, and snow peas for 2–3 minutes.
  5. Return chicken to skillet. Add noodles and sauce. Toss well and cook for another 2–3 minutes until sauce coats everything.
  6. Garnish with green onions. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Substitute chicken with tofu, shrimp, or beef.
  • Use spaghetti if you don’t have lo mein noodles.
  • Double the sauce for extra juiciness.
  • Add more veggies like mushrooms or spinach for variety.
