Description
Crispy fried mushrooms coated in a seasoned breading and deep-fried to golden perfection. Great as an appetizer, snack, or burger topper.

- 1 lb fresh mushrooms (button or cremini), cleaned and dried
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup milk (or buttermilk)
- 2 cups breadcrumbs (panko or regular)
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
Instructions
- Clean mushrooms with a damp towel and pat dry thoroughly.
- Set up a breading station with three bowls: 1) flour, cornstarch, and seasonings; 2) eggs and milk whisked together; 3) breadcrumbs.
- Dredge mushrooms in the flour mix, then dip in the egg mixture, and coat with breadcrumbs. Press gently for the coating to stick.
- Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry mushrooms in batches for 3–4 minutes, turning occasionally until golden and crispy.
- Drain on paper towels and serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
- Use panko for a lighter, crunchier texture.
- Make ahead: bread the mushrooms and store in the fridge up to 6 hours before frying.
- Air fryer version: Spray with oil and cook at 375°F (190°C) for 10–12 minutes.
- Add grated parmesan to the breadcrumb mix for extra flavor.
