Description

Crème Brûlée is a rich and creamy dessert topped with a hard caramelized sugar layer, making it a delightful treat that’s surprisingly simple to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 large egg yolks
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C).
  2. In a saucepan, combine heavy cream, whole milk, and vanilla. Heat until just simmering.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together egg yolks and granulated sugar until pale.
  4. Temper the egg mixture by gradually adding hot cream mixture.
  5. Pour the mixture into ramekins and place them in a baking dish.
  6. Fill the baking dish with hot water until halfway up the sides of the ramekins.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes until set but still jiggly in the center.
  8. Remove and cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
  9. Before serving, sprinkle brown sugar on top and use a kitchen torch to caramelize until golden.

Notes

  • Make sure the crème brûlée is well chilled before caramelizing the sugar.
  • For a creative twist, try infusing the cream with coffee or citrus zest.
