Description

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 cup whole milk, warmed
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1 cup pastry cream or jam, for filling
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar, for dusting


Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  3. Add the egg mixture, melted butter, and yeast mixture to the flour. Mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
  6. Roll the dough out and cut into circles.
  7. Let the circles rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Fry the doughnuts until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side.
  10. Remove and drain on paper towels. Fill with pastry cream or jam, and dust with powdered sugar.
